We had the missionaries over for dinner on Father's Day. It was entertaining. Traditionally, missionaries usually share a spiritual message at the conclusion of the meal. We finished dinner, then dessert, and we awaited the uplifting message. I guess the Elders we have are a little untraditional. Finally after some time passed, I asked if they were going to share a message of some sort. This began a series of interesting thoughts...
The Californian elder first of all offered to share a story, a scripture, or a thought. I said, a scripture would be nice and he said that he had a really cool chicken story, so Kerry "egged" ha ha him on to share with us a story about chickens, because of a personal joke between us. The elder proceeded to try and recall the story but after three or four fatal attempts couldn't recall the story and left us all puzzling at his sanity. Thinking he would turn to the scriptures as a safe second option...he just sat there with this goofy look on his face. Our Hawaiian elder didn't know how to recover after that and just shook his head. I told them after seriously wondering about the sanity of the first elder that one of my fondest memories as a child was having the missionaries over for dinner and they would perform magic tricks and relate them to the gospel. This must have lit this Elder's mind, because he proceeded to pull out five or ten different little tricks with his tie and a nickel. It was entertaining to say the least. I guess the underlying spiritual message is... hmmm, I still don't know. One other thing that I am sure there are plenty of opinions for...haircuts. Due to the fast growth upon Ryan's head, a friend of mine who owns her own salon encouraged me to purchase a set of child size clippers. This I did and for the past two years, I have been responsible for the good hair cuts and the not as good hair cuts. About six months ago, I resorted to shaving his head. It was just easier, it lasted longer, and he fought me less the faster I was able to get the job done. Any suggestions? I like boys with a bit of hair. Ryan is cute either way...but is there some way to help him overcome his dislike of the experience? At this point, Ryan is usually sitting in my lap, howling while a little buzzing sound circles around his little head. I usually have his favorite show on so he is somewhat distracted...but I feel for the little guy. However, not enough to let him grow a FRO.... Most professionals charge $8 a time and every three weeks it adds up...suggestions? We are going over to Alan and Mona's tonight for a bbque. Richard may be there, Cathy and Cal are camping, Jeff is at the temple tonight. We look forward to the visit.
