Thank goodness for mom and Melissa or no one would know anything that was going on. It seems so long ago now, but we did have a great time in Idaho. The weather was surprisingly mild and the day we went to the top of Sawtelle (elevation 9933) I was glad for my sweatshirt, although we walked up part way and I was producing a fair amount of body heat.
We had 23 people in the "cabin" and the only time it seemed crowded was when you were trying to get into the bathroom. It was actually a little spooky after everyone left and only Cal and I were there.
We got up into Yellowstone two days and I had forgotten how pretty it is there. We also visited Earthquake Lake, where I had never been before. For the few of us that were alive in 1959, there was a massive earthquake not far from Yellowstone (I don't seem to remember hearing about it). Several people were buried in a huge landslide which also backed up the Madison river into a lake, and hence the name.
I think I have some great video from the trip, but I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do as far as permanent storage for the video, so I have only seen little bits of what I actually shot.
Coincidently, Cal and I also went to Pacific City this last week. There was a campground there that we wanted to check out. . . which we did. We probably saw the other side of the dunes that Melissa was talking about because the campground was just north of the actual "city." Our weather was not great, we had one afternoon of sun and the rest of the time was either gray or raining. Of course as soon as we got back the weather cleared right up again.
The rain has been a nice change, though. I hate to say it but I was tired of those 90 degree days.
We had a regional conference today-although it was about like general conference because the broadcast was from Salem(!?). Not sure why they picked there but we just went to the stake center and watched it. I was commenting to Cal on the way home, though, that the personality of the general authorities seem to come out a lot more at the local conferences.
We are looking forward to our southern Oregon trip and then our trip to Utah. We may have to settle down a little then (take shorter trips?).
