From the Utah Smiths

Shannon: Ethan and Gerrit started school last Wednesday. 4th and 2nd grade They got up at 5:40 A.M.the first day of school with tons of energy and no appetite but today--not four school days later they had to be shoved out the door late for school. Ethan is preparing for his piano recital.

I got a food vacuum sealer for my birthday and have been amazing myself with the things I can seal. I resealed the bacon, frozen french fries, blueberries, corn and tilapia--maybe I need to get more hobbies. I've also been trying out recipes in Melissa's ward cookbook. I'm preparing to host book club and so have been reading lots of books trying to choose just the right one that will make for a fun read and a good discussion. I'm trying to get the club to read Hemmingway or Steinbeck to that end I've read 3 Hemmingway's in the last to weeks it might have affected my brain.

Eric: We celebrated Shannon's birthday and the end of summer with a short family vacation. We stayed in Park City for a couple of days, spending some time out on the Jordanelle Reservoir and riding the alpine slide at one of the ski resorts.

Now the boys have been back in school for a week, and it seems like a lot of work for mom and dad, too. Homework, reading, projects, volunteer sign-ups, supply donations, PTA, etc. Good thing Labor Day is coming so we can get a break.
