Who knew Atlanta could be fun?

The Wrathalls have a really nice house, near lovely Lake Lanier, with it's white sandy beaches (okay at least one white sandy beach where it looks like the sand was imported). Hmmmm, wonder why no one is swimming there? Maybe because it was 30 degrees and windy?

On Wednesday, January 10th, we drove northeast from the Wrathall homestead, almost to South Carolina, to the Tallulah Gorge. The area was pretty, but sadly, the gorge is close to the highway so there is a lot of road noise. Although we were hoping for warm weather, it was really brisk. We saw ice along side the trail, but it was sunny!

We stopped at Taylor's Soda Shop in Clarksville for lunch–the hamburgers were not the greatest (Phyllis had to chip the edges off of hers) but they did have sweet potato fries and a real southern accent!

On Thursday the 11th we climbed Stone Mountain. We had a great view of downtown Atlanta from the top.

On Friday, Kent took a day off work and we all hiked a portion of the Appalachian Trail from Neel’s Gap to the spooky top of Blood Mountain. On the way up we met a guy who was trying to hike the entire length of the trail. He claimed that he had never done any hiking before. This was an awfully big first hike.

On Monday, we drove to the Newman Wetlands Center, which was full of wildlife, including this friendly fellow. We finally got our warm weather-the high for the day was 73!

On Tuesday the 16th, we went to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Several of the Civil War defensive earthworks are still very apparent here.

We had fun with the Wrathalls and it was good to see them all settled into their new home. I'm sure they would welcome anyone's visit!!
